Finalized (ish) of the menegerie set. I’m actually planning on going back and working on these more. But for now, Menegerie set of Childhood Fears. Shadows, Basement, and Bedroom.
Poor child with a flashlight.

WIP shots of remixing the third menegerie set with the bedroom fears of children as well as thickening some more line weight on the two previous sets. With the third menegerie, it was misinterpretted that the bed was a chair so I ended up switching up the whole set to try and get a better scene set up. This is what apparently happened.

Child Fears
Shadow; Basement; Closet
In general, there is much more that I want to do to these gifs now that I have taken a seat back and looked at them. During the process, the scratchboard/crosshatch type of look really appealed to me. It gave me more of a fear/type of madness and mesh of thought kind of feel than what I was thinking on doing previously for the original compositions. I will be going back to these to flesh them out more. These definitely give me a better feel than what I had planned before. A bit more..psychological feel.
Done in Toon Boom Animate pro.

Redux of the original idea of the third menegerie. Originally it was going to be a loop where a child was on a bed getting kicked between the monster beneath the bed and the one in the closet. It didnt feel enough….fear for me however and so it has been altered.
After going through these gifs, I find it really appealing with the sort of scratchboard crosshatch feel to the gifs. They are not finalized exactly, there is still more that I want to clean and mess with.

I went through a but of a redux of how I was going to execute the gifs for the menegerie project.

In the original idea, it was going to be a looping gif of a child running throughout the halls and being caught by shadows. However when I was doing it…something just didnt fit right with me. It wasnt exactly…as ‘fearful’ as I wanted it to be. It just seemed more like a joke to me.
And so I had done something that maybe I shouldnt have. But I have given it a redux.
Roughed in gif.
More Finalized Form.
Childhood Fear: Shadows
WIP progress of the first gif set in the childhood fears. Shadows have been added in. The main shadow creature is not yet fully put into the gif. Havent been satisfied with how exactly Im going to have the main shadow exit the scene. It shall be figured out soon.
Character sketches for 2nd Menegerie
Rough gif of the second childhood fear. The washing machine in the basement whose mouth is a vortex for socks. A vaccum effect. It wants your socks.

Rough animation layout for the child in the first childhood fear. Running down the hallway with shadows. I havent put in the shadow characters, I just wanted to focus on the movement of the child first. Timing is not all there, I wanted to get down a generalized flow.
I really do enjoy my monster place holder though.

Hmm….
Theres so much and yet so little in :20 seconds. I just dont understand.
Very rough exercise for animation class. Animate to a sound clip. Anything goes. Anything.
So in this case, very rough sketch of someone talking about how beautiful someone is.
